Message from the Van Nuys Airport Association President

Last year was an active year for the VNAA. We devoted much effort to finding a solution to a problem that affects all of us, from single-engine owners to charter operators alike: the long-standing issue of rental rates at VNY. Rate adjustments are supposed to take place every five years, but the last time the rates were successfully adjusted was 1990. Due to efforts by the VNAA and many of the major master leaseholder, we got the Los Angeles World Airports (ALAWA) board involved to work with LAWA staff, and not only were the 1995 and 2000 land and building rates finalized (and at much lower rates than earlier proposed by LAWA) for most master leaseholders, but also many of the 2005 rates were resolved.

Everything's ChangingThe VNAA is still trying to get the piston aircraft land rents finalized for 2005 and have LAWA expedite the allocation of the piston only land areas. We will continue to pursue a fair and equitable resolution to this problem this year.

In addition to the land rent issue, the VNAA work hard in 2005 to improve our public image. We worked hard to win support from the Los Angeles City Council, VICA, and the Van Nuys Airport Citizens Advisory Council to win final approval by the City Council and our new mayor for the Alternative J Van Nuys Airport Master Plan. This was a 13 year process. We convinced the majority of our Valley neighbors to understand that the Van Nuys Airport is a one billion plus economic engine for our region, and we will ensure that this point of view is represented so that our City leaders will hear both sides of this very important story.

Thank you again for your support. Please continue to help us help VNY businesses, tenants, employees and aircraft owners!

Sincerely,

VAN NUYS AIRPORT ASSOCIATION
